Carly Pearce regrets marriage: Singer Carly Pearce has revealed that she knew the very night of her wedding with fellow country singer Michael Ray that it wasn’t right.

This week, Pearce appeared on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, where she was incredibly candid about her whirlwind relationship with Ray, the eventual divorce, and the heartbreak she’s felt since their split.

Pearce admits: She knew the marriage wasn’t right

She has previously spoken about the split, but during a recent interview on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, she was even more candid, revealing that she actually knew within the night of the marriage that it wasn’t right.

She said: “I didn’t know if it was love or lust … I got married for the wrong reasons, but I knew that night after I got married that I shouldn’t have.”

Pearce, who is known for hits like Every Little Thing and Should’ve Known Better, said the Nashville native wasn’t her one true love.

“I got married for the wrong reasons and, at the same time, the right reasons. I got married to go the distance, and when I married him, I did that for the right reasons. … We didn’t have real conversations, and we really didn’t know each other. We were kind of just living in this life that wasn’t really reality.”

She’s also revealed that she immediately regretted getting married.

“It’s sad. I knew the night I got married that I shouldn’t have. I feel like that’s a day in your life that you kind of remember for the rest of your life, and I remember it so vividly. This is definitely something I won’t forget,” she said.

Pearce and Michael Ray announced their divorce on social media in October 2020, just months after a whirlwind romance led to the pair tying the knot in September 2019.

Pearce said the two didn’t have the traditional relationship and realized in the thick of it all that the marriage was wrong for them.

She said, “The first thing we did was get engaged, and the next thing we did was get married.”

The singer was also very open about the divorce, which she filed in October 2020, eight months after she and Michael Ray tied the knot.

Pearce noted: “This was someone that I thought was my one true love, and after a year of being with this person, it wasn’t true love. It was lustful or a desire that I thought at the time was love, but it didn’t turn into the marriage that I know I deserved.”

The singer noted that the pandemic was actually “the best thing” that could have happened to her during that time because she had time to deal with the separation privately.

“The best thing that ever happened to me was COVID because it allowed me to deal with it in private. I would have stayed in it longer if I could have avoided it and not had to. The person I was embarrassed when it happened … I had shame around that and was heartbroken,” she said.

Pearce said she learned more about herself and what she deserves during that time. She noted that while she loved Ray, she also realized quickly that the marriage “wasn’t love” but was just “passionate”.

Pearce also said the marriage was a result of lust, and she and her ex did not talk about their issues before getting married.

The singer said, “It wasn’t love. It was just a passionate relationship. When I look back at the beginning of everything, we didn’t sit down and have these real conversations about any issues because I was just over the moon in love and blinded by what I thought was love.”

The country singer has been getting tons of love for opening up and has said that during this time, she is at the happiest season in her life.
